Eric Czajkowski has loved geography since childhood. However, his career path to the geospatial industry was not as straightforward as one might assume; he worked in document services, legal administration, and banking operations.
However, Eric's fascination with geography never left, and eventually, he went back to school for training before beginning his career in geospatial.
Eric joined our team after gaining some experience at a different organization. Simon Bailey, CEO of our U.S. operations, saw an opportunity to hire talent from this previous company and recruited several team members, including Eric. Those who were part of this transition are still part of the T-Kartor team.
Eric has been with us for several years, and it has been an absolute pleasure.
When we read a book, we are transported to the author's universe through their words. Eric feels the same way about geography: maps can instantly transport us to a new place, teach us about culture, and allow us to travel without taking a single step. He loves how the field sparks imagination and creativity while providing technical opportunities and moments.
Remote work was an initial challenge for Eric, but he has enjoyed it immensely, honing his ability to see other perspectives and understand new ways to solve problems.
Eric also enjoys working at his home office; his favorite part of the day is right after lunch when he can get in a zone of productivity.
Company culture is important, and Eric would describe T-Kartor's atmosphere as friendly, professional, playful, and transparent. Everyone wants to create a quality product, and the team is all in it together.
Eric also notes that management has an open-door feel and is willing to hear ideas and feedback, which he strongly appreciates.
Eric says it's hard to predict where the geospatial industry will be in the next six months, let alone the next decade. He asserts that the technological advancement will be exciting and is curious to see how improvements to satellites and AI impact the work.
If you're new to the field, Eric would advise you to focus on multidiscipline work, learn programming languages, and take business courses. He believes that knowledge of other fields can help you offer different perspectives and make you a more valuable candidate.
After the workday, Eric loves spending time with his nine-year-old son. He has been developing an interest in video games, and Eric says it's been fun to bond with him over the ones he played as a teenager—now they can play them together.
Eric's goal for the rest of 2024 is to get outside more, exercise, and stay active. He recently moved to a new neighborhood and is looking forward to exploring and taking advantage of its walkability.
