Ross Johnson is a veteran member of the T-Kartor, having contributed his talents to the company for the past 12 years.
Ross originally started his career in urban planning and architecture, studying landscape architecture at Washington State University, where he was particularly interested in environmentally low-impact community design.
His work in architecture eventually led him to design waterparks. One of his favorite design projects he worked on is the Wings and Waves waterpark in McMinnville, Oregon, where several water slides extend out of a Boeing 747 positioned on the roof of the building.
Ross was designing waterparks in St. Louis when he decided it was time for a change of pace. This led him to T-Kartor to work on the city wayfinding maps.
Ross's background equipped him with superior technical knowledge of several programs, such as CAD, Illustrator, and 3d, allowing for a straightforward skills transfer into the geospatial field. Ross has worked on many of our projects, including the London and New York transportation maps.
Over the last 12 years, Ross has enjoyed his time with the company. He feels it's a great work environment and appreciates working with technical and scientific-minded people.
Ross also has a special appreciation for how T-Kartor's Swedish founder, Sten Ravhed, shapes the company's culture (emphasizing the family and community feel in the office).
Ross advises anyone new to the geospatial industry to be open-minded and strive to learn new techniques from their teammates. After witnessing the transitions from paper maps to digital to our current geospatial climate, he does not doubt that we will adapt to future technologies (including AI integration and automation).
Ross is a father of two and spends time with his family outside of work. They love going on road trips and festivals around the country; he and his family enjoy finding unique places and roadside attractions along the way.
