Steve Gustafson

Steve Gustafson has been a difference maker on our team since joining in October 2019, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him aboard. 

Originally a Sociology major during undergrad, it was only a matter of time before GIS captured his interest, and he began to focus on pursuing a career working with mapping and geospatial data. Steve felt that the field would keep growing in the coming decades (a hunch that has most certainly proven correct).

By the end of his college tenure, Steve would graduate with a Bachelor's in geography. He started his career in geospatial with a role at a Nashville-based organization before eventually moving to the St. Louis area to be closer to family in Illinois.

While transitions between roles and companies can be complex, Steve's move to the T-Kartor team was straightforward; he was familiar with the software we use and the types of projects the team works on, which served as a launching point for his new role as a geospatial analyst.

Steve prides himself on his ability to work independently and learn new skills and techniques—both valuable skills for a geospatial analyst.

Steve will tell you that T-Kartor is one of the best companies he's worked for. He applauds management for being upfront and direct with their employees and finds collaboration with his teammates seamless and enjoyable.

As with many dedicated analysts, Steve sets daily goals for himself. Each day is a new opportunity to complete as much as he can; he is driven to complete as many reworks as possible and continuously improve.

Working for a company like T-Kartor enables Steve to reflect more on the emergence of AI technology in today's world. He is curious to see how its ongoing development can impact GIS software and workflows for organizations providing geospatial solutions in the future.

Steve would encourage anyone entering geospatial to take classes, attend conferences, and stay involved with industry events, as it could lead to more connections and opportunities for career development.
